Our Themed Afternoons
Our themed afternoons are different clubs where we focus on the intensive development of specific skills, knowledge and abilities that are related to our overall weekly topic. Clubs are: Music and Movement Mondays, Maths and Science Tuesdays, Arts and Crafts Wednesdays, Drama and Literacy Thursdays, Sports and Relaxation Fridays. During all activities children learn by experimenting, exploring and experiencing.
MUSIC AND MOVEMENT CLUB
The content of Music and Movement Club is not only singing songs but we also introduce children to different styles of music. Children are encouraged to engage auditory perception. We talk about, learn to play and recognize different musical instruments and try to match our movement to music.
MATHS AND SCIENCE CLUB
For this afternoon we can use our laboratory, kitchen or many of our Maths related educational resources or iPads but we can also conduct scientific observations in our garden or school surroundings. The content focuses on development of polytechnic, pre-mathematical skills and logical thinking.
ARTS AND CRAFTS CLUB
We use a variety of techniques and materials to support the creative development of children. Emphases are placed on fine motor skills development, correct use of different tools and materials. Emphases are placed on the use of child’s fantasy and invention.
DRAMA AND LITERACY CLUB
This fun afternoon actively engages children in traditional fairy tales, children develop their first pre-literacy understanding, learn new vocabulary, use their fantasy and creativity and engage their mechanical memory. Dramatic representation leads to the cultivation of speech and self-presentation.
SPORTS AND RELAXATION CLUB
This afternoon focuses on the development of physical, gross motor skills, co-ordination and effective motor planning. During Sport activities children work on muscle strength of large muscle groups, we support healthy child’s ambition, courage and a sense of fair play. Their social-emotional skills are largely engaged too.
